Memorial Medical Center provides some of the top quality in mammography imaging. The GE Senographe Pristina provides 2D and 3D imaging of the breast with lower dose radiation than other mammography machines. This is the latest released technology. We are also the only facility in the region to have the iCad Powerlook attached to the reading station to assist in reading the 3D images. This allows the radiologist to get extra assistance to catching any abnormalities in the mammogram images.
Women who do not have any symptoms of breast disease.
The aim of screening mammography is to reduce the death rate from breast cancer by detecting unsuspected breast cancers at an early stage.
Carried out when a person/physician discovers unusual signs or symptoms in one or both breasts. This could be: a lump, tenderness, nipple discharge or skin changes. The mammogram confirms whether the changes are benign (non-cancerous) and no treatment is needed, or whether the changes indicate possible breast cancer and further tests and treatment may be recommended.
How do I prepare for diagnostic mammography?
Please withhold from wearing any deodorant, perfume, lotion or talcum powder on the day of your appointment. These substances may show up as shadows or artifacts on your mammogram. If you have had previous mammograms at another facility, please bring them with you to your appointment, so they can be compared with the new mammogram. If you are unable to bring the previous mammogram, we will contact the previous facility to obtain the images. It is better to wear a two-piece outfit, so you only need to undress from the waist up.
